News from the Black Rock Gang

The Black Rock Gang excels at the 2017 RRCUS National Specialty

  • Incredibly proud of my dogs and our extended family.  We had so many great successes at our 2017 National Specialty!
  • Leon--Not only qualified but placed in Beginner Novice Obedience at our first try ever at traditional obedience (we've previously done rally obedience which is easier).  Leon also placed in agility, earning a 2nd place and completing his Novice Preferred title!
  • Phoenix--Of course she was the dog to bring home a 1st place ribbon and trophy! She rocked it in agility and got her second leg in Open Jumpers with Weaves!  Phoenix also qualified and placed in Rally Advanced!  Just one more Q for her title!
  • Cinder--She did great in conformation and placed 3rd in a really nice class in AOH.  She had a blast coursing, but was just out of the ribbons!
  • Louis (Leon X Fizz) was a rock star at lure coursing.  He placed 1st in his open stake and was a real contender for the Breed win!
  • Twist (Leon X Fizz) also rocked it at coursing.  She placed 2nd in her open stake!
  • Layla (Leon X Cassie) looked beautiful in conformation and placed 4th in a very competitive American-Bred class.
  • So proud of my dogs and Leon's kids.  Could not ask for a better week!

Early 2017 news:

  • It's been awhile since I posted anything here.  Time for an update.  The gang and I have been busy so far in 2017 and have a few new brags.
  • The gang and I played at the International show in March and all three dogs earned their International conformation championship titles.
  • Phoenix continues to excel in agility.  This spring she earned both her Novice Agility and Novice Agility Jumpers titles.  We are working on her Open-level titles now.
  • Cinder earned her first AKC championship point in April.  She was entered in her first ever agility trial (CPE) in May and did great!  Also in May, we went lure coursing and she was Best of Breed one day and earned her Senior Courser title too.
  • Leon has mostly been a couch-potato this year, but we have played agility a bit.  He earned his first ever AKC agility title at the age of 7!  OK, it took us a while but that just makes me all the more proud!  He now has his Novice Jumpers Preferred title and has two of the needed three legs for his novice standard preferred title.
  • Our non-ridgeback Eight-Ball had TPLO surgery in June, so we're taking a bit of a break from dog sports while he recovers.  We'll be back at it this fall!

Phoenix is a new champion and Cinder has a Best in Field brag!

  • We have had a wonderful summer and fall!  Cinder started her coursing career this summer and fall.  We only entered her in two trials, and she already has both her lure coursing majors for her Field Champion title and even went Best in Field in October 2016!  Wow, this girl loves to run!
  • Phoenix finished her conformation championship title with a bang!  We travelled to California for the Bay Area Rhodesian Ridgeback regional specialty show and stayed for the regular shows afterwards.  Even though she had some VERY tough competition, Phoenix won winner's bitch and best of winners under respected breeder-judge Barbara Rupert to finish her championship title!  Two days later she won an award of merit! To top it off, she also earned her second qualifying score for her standard agility title!

Success at agility for both Phoenix and Leon!

  • Thus summer, I entered Phoenix in her first ever agility trial.  She was a super star, earning qualifying scores in three of her four runs!

  • Leon didn't want to be left out of the fun.  I entered him for just one day and he earned his first AKC qualifying scores in jumpers and standard preferred!  Woo Hoo!

Welcome to the Leon X Cassie Puppies!

  • We are pleased to announce the arrival of 12 beautiful healthy puppies!  Cassie (Skydance the Spell is Cast RN) delivered 8 girls and 4 males.  All of the puppies are healthy and strong.  One boy and one girl with a kink in their tails, all puppies have beautiful ridges.  See the Photo Gallery for puppy photos!

The Black Rock Gang has a great 2015 show season!

  • Leon, Phoenix and Cinder had a great show season in 2015.  Some highlights are below.
  • Phoenix had a wonderful winning-streak during the summer & fall, winning WB or BOW quite a few days in a row.  She racked up a bunch of points!  She also took a Best of Breed from the 12-18 month class at the Southern Oregon Kennel Club show in October.
  • Leon had minimal showing in 2015.  He still managed to rack up two Best of Breeds, a couple of Owner-Handled Best of Breeds, and a Owner Handled Hound Group 1!
  • Cinder started her show career off with a bang, taking a Best of Breed Puppy and a Puppy Hound Group 1 in Roseburg Oregon in November.
  • Leon finished off his Rally Advanced Title and Phoenix obtained her first let of her Rally Novice title at the Southern Oregon Kennel Club show.

Welcome Leon X Fizz Puppies!

  • We are very excited to announce the breeding of Leon X Fizz (GCH Mwen-Yezi's a Taste for Champagne, AX, AXJ, NJP, CGC).  Fizz delivered 12 puppies on April 12, 2014.  There were 8 girls and 4 males.  See the Photo Gallery for photos of the Leon X Fizz puppies.

Albany Oregon shows, 2015

  • Phoenix earns her first points, and a major to boot!  She now has her first three points towards her US championship title!  Judge Robert Hutton.
  • Leon--Best of Breed in a very competitive entry.  Thank you judge Elizabeth Muthard

RRCUS National Specialty, September 2014

  • Leon and Jennifer made multiple cuts and made it to the last 11 dogs in a very large, competitive Best of Breed class of over 75 dogs!
  • Leon also competed in agility and rally. He did great and almost got his first Q in agility, but was just shy due to being over time and having to retry the teeter.  Rally was fun too, but his handler made a fatal error so we were out of the running at the third sign :(
